2001Moraga Red
Winemaker’s Tasting Notes

The 2001 vintage was one of those rare growing seasons that allow winemakers to remain relatively relaxed as Mother Nature is on her best behavior. Mild days, without extremes of heat or cold, led to superb grape quality and a splendid balance between fruit and acidity. Picking lasted from September 3rd to October 29thand it was simply a matter of patience to wait until the grapes achieved their optimum level of ripeness and were ready for picking.

2001 Moraga Red Wine is true to form with notes of cherry, cassis and tobacco mingled with hints of smoke and mineral. Blueberry, cassis and black olive with a bit of mineral dust dominate the flavor profile. New French oak barrels contribute nuances of vanilla and spice, as well as a bit of tannin to bolster the structure. This is a luscious wine that fills the mouth with a full, viscous texture and finishes with a juicy persistence.

Great wines convey a sense of their origins and this wine is certainly expressive of its unique terroir. We hope you enjoy it immensely.
